I’m Matt Ferrell and my focus is on sustainable initiatives for cotton.
Traditionally, when you’ve reached the endpoint life of a garment, you can either repurpose, recycle, or dispose of it.
One of the newest and interesting things that we are researching is taking textile cotton waste and turning it into glucose, or more commonly known as sugar.
Glucose as a starting material can be made into bio-based chemicals that are used in everyday products and consumables, such as detergents, cosmetics, and other polymers.
This exciting research presents a new opportunity to create new things from cotton text to waste.
